                        hostile indifference.....

//It was not hard to tell that they were already upset with her. They only spoke amongst themselves with a few hurried glances back at her. This amused her to some extent but she continued on doing what she always did. She ran her fingers quickly, one by one, over the book... The book with the smooth cover she adored ever so dearly... Dull thuds were heard in the car, over and over... again and again. Finally, seeing that her plan was not working, she once again looked through the book with casualty.
//"Dear," the woman began, "it's not good for your eyes if you look at your book in the car."
//The woman said no more and continued to talk to her father. Slowly, she shut the book and looked at the passing scenery. Bright green lights... then the neon yellow light... Stop. It was just another stop in the trip. Another minute wasted on the road that was leading her to nowhere... nowhere as in some rich part of New York.
// They thought of New York as a wonderful place to move to... a welcoming change from where they met. It would be the greatest change for her father who did not seem to care for it one bit at all. He would be the one elevated to a more high paid job. He would be the one moving into the higher class neighborhood. He would be the one that would have a rather grand party for his elevation in status but none of this meant nothing to him. It was just to impress that woman that he 'loved' and he was doing a very good job of it. After all it was the only thing he seemed to be doing lately... And with her last drowsy thought, she slipped off into a world where nightmares became forgotten and sadness was never a word.
